Yogyakarta & Borobudur, Indonesia - 1994. Yogyakarta is an Indonesian city in central Java known for its traditional Javanese arts and culture. It has an 18th century Sultan’s Palace and is a major tourist destination. Not far from Yogyakarta is Borobudur which is a Mahayana Buddhist temple build sometime in the 7th or 8th century. It is the world's largest Buddhist and is built on a hill and consists of a large central stupa resting on three circular levels which in turn are atop six rectangular levels. There are hundreds of carved relief scenes which depict various ancient stories, including the Buddha’s life.
